Our Axle Repair Services for Heavy-Duty Trucks & Trailers:
Lubrication Failure
One of the most common causes of axle shaft damage is lubricant failure. Lubricant failure can happen for a wide variety of reasons, but generally, it’s either caused by old, leaking, or contaminated fluid. Since your axle shafts and differentials share the same housing, a leak from either compartment can affect the entire assembly. As such, routine inspection and fluid changes are of the utmost importance. For all your heavy-duty axle needs, give Mac’s Diesel & Trailer Repair a call. As a fully mobile service, we’re more than capable of coming to the location of your choosing and fixing any type of damage, regardless of its complexity.
Symptoms of Axle Failure
Performance Issues
If one of your axles snaps, you’ll likely notice significant performance issues. Since your differentials distribute power based on the path of least resistance, a snapped axle may receive 100% of your engine’s power for it has little to no resistance. The only exception here is if the axle is completely bound up within the housing. In this case, the entire differential may bind up and fail to distribute power altogether.
Knocking and Shuddering
If you hear knocking sounds coming from your axle housing and feel a shuddering sensation when in motion, you may have a warped or snapped axle. The knocking sound is generally a result of your axle bouncing around within its housing. The shuddering on the other hand is usually a sign that your axle is warped and isn’t rotating properly.
